Common Sleeping Problems (And How You Can Solve Them)

There are plenty of sleeping disorders that you may experience in your lifetime. The great thing about these disorders is that you do not have to live with them. There are easy solutions to these problems is that you can easily solve them with a few lifestyle changes and bed accessories. Solving these sleeping disorders is key for a more comfortable sleep, both for you and your partner.


Insomnia remains to be one of the most prevalent sleep disorders, affecting up to ten percent of adults worldwide. It is so problematic because it affects your productivity as an individual throughout the day. It keeps you up at night which means that you can’t hit the target minimum hours for a complete night of rest. That will weaken your immune system, your body, and your overall biological performance.

Insomnia can materialize in varying severities. Some are incapable of sleeping at all. Others can only sleep sporadically. Some can sleep lightly or achieve rapid eye movement (REM) sleep but not deep sleep. It can also be acute or chronic.

The most common treatments for insomnia include using cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia or by using sleeping pills. An easy fix is to make sure that your sleeping quarters are as comfortable as possible, so get a weighted blanket or a mattress topper.

Snoring And Sleep Apnea

Snoring is caused by your throat closing during your sleep. The obstructed airflow prevents the air from moving freely and that generates the sound that cuts off your breathing every few seconds. Snoring, if more severe, can escalate into sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a complete stop in breathing due to throat closures and it can be fatal. Even losing oxygen for as little as ten seconds can cause serious issues like brain damage to death.

The best treatment for these two is with a sleep study or polysomnography. That will reveal a clearer picture of the sleeping issue so that the necessary medical remedies can be taken. Snoring can be remedied through angled pillows, nose clips, and an elevated mattress topper. Sleep apnea is generally regulated by hooking up the patient with a sleep apnea machine every night during sleep.

Body Pain 

Body pain is yet another common sleeping discomfort. It is primarily caused by an uncomfortable sleeping surface. Your mattress may be too hard or too stiff. It may also be too thin so your back is flushed against your bed frame.

Getting a new mattress is incredibly costly which is why one easy fix you can try is getting a mattress topper. This adds a few extra inches of softness that will extend the shelf life of your mattress. It is ideal to go for a memory foam mattress topper because these types follow the contours of your body over time. The seemingly customized mold will lessen your body pains as the pressure will be lifted.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

This is technically an illness in and of itself, but its symptoms interfere with one’s sleep quality so much that it might as well be classified as such. This is characterized by prolonged, intense, and unexplainable fatigue. The exhaustion is the type that cannot be remedied by any amount of sleep. This problem escalates into other more serious health issues. The causes are believed to be a genetic predisposition, an infectious disease, or chronic exposure to toxins. There are many drug-based treatment plans available for this, from antidepressants to supplements.
